We are a big animal shelter in South Australia called the Animal Welfare League (AWL). Every week, we take care of more than 80 animals. Our goal is to make them healthy and find them new homes with caring families.

We can do all this because of the kind help we get from people in South Australia who love animals. With their support, we don’t just find homes for pets. We also help people say goodbye to their pets with our Pet Cremation service. We take care of pets in our Boarding facilities, and we help South Australians shop in a way that’s good for the environment through our Op Shops.

In the role of Collection and Cremation Services Officer, your responsibilities include overseeing the smooth and efficient processes of collecting and delivering animals for cremation. You will also be in charge of conducting cremations. Additionally, part of your role involves interacting with customers to ensure a high-quality customer service experience. You will take the lead in delivering and presenting memorial products.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Promote a professional image of AWL consistently.
  • Collect deceased pets from both vet clinics and private homes.
  • Return pet ashes to customers’ homes and vet clinics.
  • Efficiently transfer ashes into urns and prepare memorial products.
  • Groom animals, including collecting paw prints and fur clippings.
  • Prepare animals for private viewing when necessary.
  • Operate crematorium ovens, crushers, and forklift in accordance with regulations and policies.

Kindly be aware that working hours may fluctuate based on business requirements. We highly value availability throughout a 7-day work week, including weekends, public holidays, and peak holiday periods. The positions are situated in Edinburgh North, with occasional travel expected.

Key Selection Criteria:

The Cremations Department is seeking individuals who are team-oriented and adaptable, align with AWL’s vision and mission, and possess the following qualities:

  • Demonstrated skills in providing customer-centric services, including a comprehension of customer expectations and needs.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective time management skills, demonstrating the ability to learn, organize, and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, exhibiting a high level of accuracy in tasks.
  • Proven attributes such as professionalism, reliability, and trustworthiness, coupled with a mature outlook.
  • Ability to identify problems, contribute to developing solutions, and escalate issues if necessary.
  • Intermediate computer literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and internet usage.

Special Requirements:

  • Flexibility in working hours is essential, involving a seven-day workweek, public holidays, peak holiday periods, and potential shift coverage for leave absences.
  • Travel to various AWL sites and other locations is a requirement.
  • A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Applicants must undergo a functional assessment to confirm their physical ability to fulfill the position’s physical demands.
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate/National Police Check (NPC) is necessary at the start of employment and may be requested periodically by AWL.
